There are exciting new sustainable innovations to share with you that are weaving a new fashion paradigm. And rightly so, as the fashion industry is highly polluting: production makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions, dries up water sources, pollutes rivers and streams, and destroys our mighty forests. What’s more, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. And washing some clothes sends thousands of bits of plastic into our oceans.

Canopy Style
The NGO Canopy works with fashion designers to protect ancient and endangered forests. To bring attention to this cause, iconic fashion designer Vivienne Westwood released this powerful video, “Vivus”— created by Scottish filmmaker Aidan Zamiri; and featuring a poem by spoken word artist & activist Kai-Isaiah Jamal.
We love the use of spoken word to draw us in and drive home the point that no matter who we are, we all share this planet.
“Material World”
Illustrator, Anna Ginsburg, has created a rich graphical video called “Material World” with a nod to the Beatles 1960’s “Yellow Submarine”. We love her use of humor and art to teach us about “what on earth we are wearing”.
“3 Seconds”
While this first place short film, “3 Seconds”, is not about fashion per se, it is an incredible thought provoking “reality show” that actually speaks truth to us all and to power. Spoken word artist Prince Ea makes a powerful case for protecting the planet. We just had to share this one too.
