Creating a Local Circular Food System
Carbon Crunch is a project of Live Creative Studio in Durango, Colorado. Carbon Crunch is a sustainable food business incubator, solving for both food packaging waste and climate change through launching local composting of food and packaging projects, bring your own (utensils, cups, containers, etc.) initiatives, and local reuse and zero waste. businesses. The transition to renewable energies is an important part of the solution to curb the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that drive climate change. However, we cannot rely exclusively on the increased use of renewable energies as the sole solution.
Luckily, a complementary strategy exists that can dramatically reduce and even eliminate both GHG emissions and waste: Circularity. Food waste and food packaging, if composted, not only reduces waste but it contributes to removing carbon from the atmosphere and our reliance on fossil fuel (a huge GHG contributor) based plastics for food and to- go packaging. Further, if we reuse containers, utensils, and cups then we eliminate waste in the first place and restaurants save on container purchasing.
